Job summary

AIS in Hanover, MD is seeking an on-site IT Systems Engineer to support developers by integrating, debugging, and optimizing components across test and production environments, with occasional weekend work. The role requires an active TS/SCI with CI Poly and security-focused operational duties.

Responsibilities include system administration, patching, monitoring, automation with Ansible and Python, and managing Cisco, VMware, NetApp storage, and Splunk clusters to ensure reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of directly related experience or a Master’s degree and 3+ years of directly related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Deployment and automation scripting with Ansible and Python.
• Linux and Windows system administration.
• Patching Windows and Linux vulnerabilities.
• Host-based networking and Cisco configurations.
• Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

Responsibilities

• Support developers by integrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing system components across test and production environments.
• Perform daily system administration, including configuration, patching, performance optimization, and proactive monitoring to maintain stability and reliability.
• Assess user needs and implement system upgrades, configuration changes, and enhancements that improve functionality and overall user experience.
• Monitor system load, usage trends, and capacity to plan technical refreshes and ensure sustainable performance.
• Install, configure, and maintain mid-range operating systems; lead RHEL updates using Ansible and leverage shell scripting for automation.
• Manage Splunk cluster and indexer health to ensure continuous data flow and data integrity; implement monitoring and automation improvements.
• Install and upgrade Cisco NX-OS and Catalyst devices, as well as VCenter, ESXi, and Horizon client suite components.
• Administer and expand NetApp LUNs, ensuring reliable ISCSI connectivity and storage growth.
• Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges by applying advanced consulting skills and deep technical expertise while mentoring team members when needed.
• Support operational demands and shifting priorities—including occasional weekend installations and last-minute schedule changes—with flexibility and a positive, team-oriented approach.
