Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform hands-on transformer service across customer sites, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and advanced service activities. You will read drawings, work with customers in industrial and utility environments, and support lifecycle upgrades and end-of-life replacements.

Strong problem-solving skills and travel readiness are essential. This role is based in Santa Fe Springs, California, with up to 85% travel.

Qualifications

• Work authorization to work in the United States.
• Associate degree with 2 years of experience or high school diploma with 5 years of experience.
• Broad knowledge of transformer field service operations and transformer field testing.
• Experience with transformer installation, vacuum processing, and internal transformer components.
• Understanding of transformer construction and theory of operation, including bushings and current transformers.
• Valid driver’s license with ability to travel up to 85%.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site and remote transformer service activities, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades and replacements.
• Execute mechanical and electrical tasks using drawings, manuals and service instructions.
• Repair, re-gasket, assemble and disassemble transformer equipment as directed.
• Perform internal transformer work such as bushing connections, lead clearance, tapping, crimping, taping, and contoured joints.
• Operate and maintain vacuum oil processing and oil handling equipment with direction and complete service logs.
• Coordinate logistics related to resources and spare parts for service jobs.
• Support customer needs by understanding equipment condition and site requirements.
• Identify potential service-related business opportunities through customer interaction.
