Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an apprentice Field Service Technician to support transformer maintenance and diagnostic work across the US. You’ll learn hands-on with senior technicians, focusing on transformer service, safety, and customer engagement.

You will gain experience in vacuum oil processing and use of diagnostic tools while developing field service fundamentals and career growth within Hitachi Energy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED plus 2+ years of technical or mechanical work experience
• Valid driver’s license with clean record and ability to travel up to 85% nationwide
• Physical capability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform demanding tasks
• Class A CDL preferred for operating specialized service vehicles
• Welding certification or experience preferred for enhanced field capabilities
• Candidate must have work authorization to work in the United States for Hitachi Energy

Responsibilities

• Execute precision mechanical work in high-voltage substations under guidance of senior technicians
• Learn transformer maintenance, service procedures, and troubleshooting techniques
• Apply technical, mechanical, or military-acquired skills to field service applications
• Conduct equipment inspections and diagnostic assessments for preventive maintenance
• Assist in servicing and repairing transformer systems using established processes and tools
• Operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil handling equipment with training and oversight
• Maintain accurate processing logs and support transformer testing activities
• Utilize digital tools and software platforms for site documentation and reporting
• Collaborate with engineering teams, field staff, and customers on maintenance strategies
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and internal procedures
