Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Safety Observer to provide continuous safety monitoring of assigned patients on-site in Massachusetts. You will assist with activities of daily living, document observations, and report issues to nursing staff.

Requirements include a high school diploma and CPR certification within 6 months; healthcare experience preferred. This is a part-time, day shift role with a focus on patient dignity and safety.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR certification within 6 months of hire required.
• Healthcare setting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous safety observation of patients.
• Maintain eye contact and communicate with patients and family as appropriate.
• Monitor for suicidal and/or violent behavior.
• Ensure patient safety during bathroom and transport.
• Monitor visitors to prevent unsafe materials from being shared with patients.
• Maintain 15-minute checks with proper documentation.
• Assist with ancillary activities as directed by the nursing supervisor.
• Follow the directions of the nurse in charge.
• Function in a float position and be assigned to areas with patient needs.
• Maintain patient dignity and advocate for the patient.
