Job summary

NIKA in Kodiak, AK is hiring a Lead Water/Wastewater Plants Operator to operate and optimize facilities on a fully on-site basis. The role supports a Teamsters 959 union environment and may offer relocation for the right candidate.

The position requires current Alaska WTP Level III certification and readiness to operate treatment equipment. Responsibilities include starting agitators, regulating flow, testing samples, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Must hold Alaska WTP Level III certification (18 AAC 74, CIM 6240.5).
• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• Must be trained and certified on equipment and software used, with credentials from an approved provider.

Responsibilities

• Start agitators and regulate flow to filter beds; pump and monitor treated water distribution.
• Clean tanks and filter beds; backwash and lubricate equipment; test water samples for pH, color, and impurities.
• Record data on residual chemicals, turbidity, and water pressure.
• Operate portable water purification plants as needed and assist wastewater purification before discharge.
