Job summary

The City of Wasilla seeks a dedicated Water/Wastewater Operator to oversee treatment and distribution systems. Primary duties include operating wastewater facilities, performing monthly sampling, and ensuring safety and compliance with state regulations.

Secondary responsibilities cover water production and distribution tasks, line location, and connections, with required Alaska certifications and a valid CDL Tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• One year experience in sewer and water operations.
• Alaska State Level I certification in wastewater collection and wastewater treatment.
• Must obtain provisional certification in water treatment and water distribution within 1 year.
• Must convert water provisional certifications to a level I and wastewater certificates to a level II within 3 years from date of hire.
• Must possess a valid Alaska CDL with Tanker endorsement within 6 months from date of hire.
• Must provide a current driving record within 30 days of request from Alaska DMV.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater collection and treatment systems.
• Operate water treatment and distribution systems as a secondary function.
• Operate equipment including bar screens, grit separator, screen press, recirculation pumps, flow meters, aeration blowers, and other related devices.
• Perform monthly wastewater sampling and maintain logs.
• Locate service utility lines and read as-built drawings; establish new sewer service connections.
• Operate live tap machines and HDPE fusion equipment; steam thaw mains as required.
• Respond to utility call outs within 20 minutes and document activities.
• Perform weekend rounds and data recording for pumps, wells, and reservoirs.
