Job summary

Advastar, Inc. in Chicago hires a Housing Specialist for an onsite office handling Housing Choice Voucher operations. You will determine eligibility, calculate rent, process recertifications, and mediate landlord-tenant issues in a high-volume, in-person setting.

Strong Microsoft Office skills and bilingual ability are valued. This full-time role runs 8:30 AM–5:00 PM with a Monday–Friday schedule, no remote work.

Qualifications

• 1+ years in a client-facing customer service role.
• 1+ years in government eligibility determination or rental/lease-up field.
• 1+ years of experience in HCV program preferred.
• Able to pass a background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Determine and document program eligibility, household income, and rent calculations for applicants and participants.
• Process annual and interim recertifications on schedule and keep participant files audit-ready.
• Manage move and portability paperwork to ensure smooth transitions.
• Serve as a front-line contact for a high volume of in-person visitors.
• Mediate issues between tenants, property owners, and the housing authority.
• Maintain accurate records and correct quality-control findings.
