Job summary

George Mason University in Fairfax seeks an experienced Event Services Production Supervisor to oversee all AV and rental equipment for the Event Services unit and ensure high-profile events run smoothly.

Working with other Supervisors and under the Assistant Director for Production, you will recruit, train, and supervise staff, develop training materials, manage vendor relationships, and coordinate equipment maintenance and inventory to support campus events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience recruiting, developing effective training programs for staff, directing, and supervising staff is required.
• Experience working in all areas of event operations/support/technology.
• Experience planning and implementing events.
• Knowledge in all areas of event operations and event support technology to include sound, lighting and video (setup, configuration, and operation) is required.
• Knowledge of event planning and the proper configuration of technical equipment for successful operation.
• Skill to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, patrons, and colleagues at all times is required.
• Ability to think critically and make decisions to support professional and student staff when issues arise.
• Ability to properly recruit, train, and supervise part-time and student wage staff.
• Ability to meet competing deadlines and prioritize responsibilities simultaneously.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours.
• Ability to diagnose, repair, and/or make recommendations for repair/replacement of all SC technical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provides high-quality production services in support of events by overseeing the execution of transportation, setup, operation, and breakdown of portable technical and non-technical equipment as requested.
• Serves as the primary supervisor and/or technician onsite for high-profile and major events.
• Is available to work flexible shifts based on event demand to ensure events are supported and executed appropriately.
• Facilitates training on proper transportation, storage, setup, and operation of equipment and effective implementation of event support and customer service.
• Creates clear and concise operation guides and resources to aide in the training of Production staff for supplemental and ongoing reference.
• Works with the Assistant Director for Production to develop and implement relevant training and coaching opportunities.
• Supports team members through mentorship, coaching, and constructive feedback.
• Ensures functionality and preservation of production resources through preventative maintenance efforts.
• Provides prompt evaluation of issues and communicates a strategy for resolution.
• Serves as the primary point of contact with outside contractors/vendors to troubleshoot equipment issues or to perform services and repairs.
• Assists in the master plan for equipment upgrades, replacement schedules, and budget oversight.
• Ensures functionality of in-house and portable A/V systems and furnishings through maintenance oversight.
• Oversees inventory and resources; maintains equipment usage history and repairs records.
• Implements a barcode/tracking system for equipment movements and storage.
• Ensures efficient use of storage space, safety, and ingenuity.
