About the Position
The Event Services Production Supervisor ensures all eventproduction services are executed properly. In partnership withother Production Supervisors, and at the direction of the AssistantDirector for Production, the Supervisor oversees all A/V and rentalequipment for the Event Services unit, including installed in-houseA/V systems; serves as onsite supervisor for high profile orcomplex events to ensure smooth execution and staff support; develops and implements relevant training programs and materialsfor event staff; recruits, trains, and supervises event staff; andattends meetings and completes special projects as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Provides high-quality production services in support of eventsby overseeing the execution of transportation, setup, operation,and breakdown of portable technical and non-technical equipment asrequested;
- Serves as the primary supervisor and/or technician onsite forhigh-profile and major events;
- Is available to work flexible shifts based on event demand toensure events are supported and executed appropriately;
- Facilitates training on proper transportation, storage, setup,and operation of equipment and effective implementation of eventsupport and customer service;
- Creates clear and concise operation guides and resources toaide in the training of Production staff for supplemental andongoing reference;
- Works in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Productionto develop and implement relevant training and coachingopportunities, including the facilitation of training sessions,development of training materials, and direct support of staff inthe transition from training to on-the-job performance;
- Supports team members through mentorship, coaching, andconstructive feedback;
- Ensures functionality and preservation of production resources,both technical and non-technical, through the implementation andoversight of preventative maintenance efforts;
- Provides prompt and responsive evaluation of issues that mayarise, evaluates the potential impact to service execution, andcommunicates a strategy for resolution of the issue in an effectiveand timely manner;
- Serves as the primary point of contact with outsidecontractors/vendors to troubleshoot equipment issues or to performservices and repairs when necessary;
- Works in conjunction with the Assistant Director forProduction, assist in the creation of and contribute to an ongoingmaster plan for equipment (technical and non-technical) upgrades,replacement schedules, and budget oversight;
- Ensures functionality of Student Centers in-house and portableA/V systems and furnishings through the implementation andoversight of preventative maintenance efforts;
- Serves as the primary point of contact with outsidecontractors/vendors to troubleshoot equipment issues or to performservices and repairs when necessary;
- Works in conjunction with the Assistant Director forProduction, assist in the creation of and contribute to an ongoingmaster plan for in-house A/V system upgrades, portable systems andrental furnishing replacement schedules, and budget oversight;
- Oversees the organization and oversight of production inventoryand resources;
- Maintains database of equipment that tracks history of usageand repairs/maintenance;
- Oversees the implementation of a barcoding/tracking system thatrecords the movement and storage of all equipment to ensureaccurate delivery of services and proper stewardship of resources;and
- Ensures efficient usage of storage space and resources thatemphasizes organization, safety, and ingenuity.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Experience recruiting, developing effective training programsfor staff, directing, and supervising staff is required;
- Experience working in all areas of eventoperations/support/technology;
- Experience planning and implementing events;
- Knowledge in all areas of event operations and event supporttechnology to include sound, lighting and video (setup,configuration, and operation) is required;
- Knowledge of event planning and the proper configuration oftechnical equipment for successful operation;
- Skill to communicate effectively and professionally with staff,patrons, and colleagues at all times is required;
- Ability to think critically and make decisions to supportprofessional and student staff when issues arise;
- Ability to properly recruit, train, and supervise part-time andstudent wage staff;
- Ability to meet competing deadlines and prioritizeresponsibilities simultaneously;
- Ability to work outside regular business hours;
- Ability to diagnose, repair, and/or make recommendations forrepair/replacement of all SC technical equipment; and
- Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate,active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all ofGMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment underMason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of allcandidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorablereview.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field;
- Experience in project management including managing of vendorsfor replacement projects strongly preferred;
- Experience providing event support in a higher educationalsetting; and
- Working knowledge in Crestron, Allen & Heath consoles,Shure microphones, Avolites consoles, Chauvet LED and movinglights, and Blackmagic Design video systems preferred.
