Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Specialist to develop, implement and audit our safety programs on construction projects. You will collaborate with craft teams, promote buy-in, and enforce Stop Work to protect workers on site in Texas.

Responsibilities include hazard inspections, incident investigations, OSHA/MSHA compliance, and safety training. A degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is preferred, with strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field.
• Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Prefer certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician.
• Proficient with Word and Excel on computers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to spot discrepancies.
• Willing to do what it takes and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, update, and communicate the SSSP with subcontractors.
• Collaborate daily with craft to drive safety program buy-in.
• Enforce Stop Work to ensure policy adherence.
• Plan and problem-solve with field operations based on leading indicators.
• Provide safety coaching to staff and craft employees.
• Assist with OSHA/MSHA compliance and incident documentation.
• Conduct daily hazard inspections and implement corrective actions.
• Review work plans and provide safety training on policies and client requirements.
