Job summary

Maine Revenue Services seeks an On-site Customer Service/Collections specialist in Augusta. You will interact with consumers by phone and in writing to arrange payment plans, update records, and locate contact details when needed.

The role requires adherence to laws, TSI policies, and strong confidentiality. The ideal candidate has a degree or equivalent experience, collections background preferred, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution OR four (4) years of equivalent post-secondary education, training, and/or professional level competency in accounting, tax collection, finance, or directly related computer science.
• Previous collection experience preferred.
• Good critical thinking, analytical skills, strong attention to detail.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• High levels of ambition, keen to grow their career.
• Experience with customer service, problem solving, or motivation to learn a new skill.
• A positive, friendly demeanor who finds joy in everyday work.
• Strong communication skills.
• The ability to work and prioritize independently.

Responsibilities

• Communicating with consumers by telephone and written correspondence to assist them with setting up payment plans and problem resolution.
• Providing thorough, efficient, and accurate account updates on computer files for each call made or received.
• Skip tracing to locate consumer contact information.
• Comply with and stay up-to-date on all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Comply with and stay up-to-date on all TSI policies and procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of functional areas, company policies, and procedures.
• Provide feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement.
• Make recommendations to implement improved processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
