Job summary

SSA Group at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Catering & Event Operations Manager to lead catering logistics, planning, execution, and quality control for events. This role focuses on client relationships, event flow, and delivering memorable experiences.

The position requires a minimum of 4 years in catering operations or event planning (6+ years preferred), strong leadership, budgeting, and vendor management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years catering operations and/or event planning management.
• Experience in off-site catering, hotel or cultural attraction catering preferred.
• Tripleseat knowledge is a plus.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all levels.
• Advanced leadership and team development capabilities.
• Financial management, analytical, and planning skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Outdoor venues experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement detailed plans for catering events, including orders and timelines.
• Coordinate with sales to capture event requirements and ensure execution.
• Oversee setup, execution, and breakdown of events for smooth operation.
• Ensure equipment, supplies, and materials are ready and in good condition.
• Walk spaces with Sales to verify readiness and address issues promptly.
• Collaborate with Sales, Culinary, and other departments to ensure flawless events.
• Attend weekly meetings, share plans, and manage balances post-event.
• Budget, forecast, and control costs; optimize revenue opportunities.
• Lead cross-functional teams, hire and develop staff where applicable.
