Job summary

Propio Language Services is seeking American Sign Language onsite interpreters in California to provide accurate consecutive interpretation and remote interpretation when needed. This independent contractor opportunity emphasizes confidentiality, professional ethics, and adherence to client requirements.

Qualified applicants will have ASL proficiency, English fluency, and one ASL certification (RID/EIPA/BEI). Travel to assignments and HIPAA/privacy awareness are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Professional proficiency in English and American Sign Language.
• Ability to accurately provide interpretation between English and American Sign Language.
• Must hold at least ONE American Sign Language Certification (RID, EIPA 3.7+, BEI).
• State Specific American Sign Language Interpreting License where applicable.
• Submission of a current résumé in English during the application process.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education/experience as required by client standards.
• Basic computer and technology proficiency.
• Ability to travel to onsite assignments.
• Background checks, fingerprinting, and/or drug screening may be required.
• Agreement to confidentiality and ethics requirements.
• One or more years of professional interpreting experience.
• Medical, legal, educational, or social-services interpreting experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and professional consecutive interpretation between English and American Sign Language during onsite assignments.
• Provide remote interpretation by telephone or video when applicable.
• Follow interpreter protocols, professional standards, and client requirements.
• Comply with Propio and client requirements relating to ethics, confidentiality, privacy, security, and assignment protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy, security, and data‑protection requirements (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA).
• Maintain professional interactions with clients, patients, customers, visitors, healthcare professionals, and other participants.
• Maintain language proficiency and subject matter knowledge for accurate and professional interpretation.
