Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator 1, GATE, for 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year. This non-exempt position supports students with special needs, works under the teacher's direction, and participates in required training and assessments.

Responsibilities include assisting with lessons, de-escalation, student supervision, and data collection. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, with preferred college credits or ParaPro score, and experience in

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED; official transcripts may be requested.
• One of the following: official transcripts showing an Associate's degree (90 quarter, 60 semester) or 72 quarter/48 semester credits, or ETS ParaPro Assessment score of 461+.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities are essential.
• Ability to learn and use standard classroom technology and tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with implementing lessons and IEP goals.
• Provide instructional and behavioral support to students in a classroom setting.
• De-escalate situations and use approved behavior management strategies.
• Support students with disabilities in daily activities and transitions.
• Assist with moving/transportation of students as needed and per safety policies.
• Prepare teaching materials and maintain basic data records as directed by staff.
