Job summary

The US Oncology Network seeks a Patient Benefits Representative to join the Breast Surgery Department in Austin, TX. This full-time role educates patients on insurance coverage and benefits, assesses financial need, and supports billing with cost estimates and eligibility updates.

Level 1 or Sr based on experience; you will work under supervision, coordinating with clinical and billing teams to ensure accurate coverage and timely referrals in a community oncology setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and utilize the appropriate terminology.
  • Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

Responsibilities

  • Before treatment, obtain insurance coverage information and demographics; educate patient on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Assess patients ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements; educate on financial assistance programs; complete Patient Cost Estimate form.
  • Complete reimbursement and liability forms for patient review; forward information to billing.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral codes prior to each treatment from Clinical Reviewer.
  • Review patient balances and notify front desk of patients to meet with.
  • Ensure correct entry of patient co-pays in the system for proper collection.
  • Verify/update demographics and insurance coverage during each visit.
  • Stay current on financial aide; build relationships with aide providers; obtain leads to other programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
