Job summary

The US Oncology Network at Texas Oncology in Austin is seeking a Patient Benefits Representative to join the Medical Oncology Department. This full‑time role focuses on educating patients about insurance coverage, evaluating financial need, and maintaining up‑to‑date eligibility and benefit data in our system.

The position requires strong communication skills, experience with revenue cycle processes, and familiarity with CPT and HCPCS coding. On‑site work with a Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly and use correct terminology.
  • Ability to complete required e-learning courses within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain insurance coverage information and demographics prior to treatment and educate patients on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Assess patients' ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements; educate on financial assistance programs.
  • Complete reimbursement and liability forms for patient review and signature and forward to billing.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment.
  • Review patient account balances and inform front desk of patients to meet with.
  • Ensure patient co-pay amounts are accurately entered into the system.
  • Verify and update demographics and insurance coverage at each visit per SOPs.
  • Stay current on financial aide options and develop relationships with aid providers.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA laws; maintain relevant manuals and documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as requested.
