Job summary

The US Oncology Network is hiring a Patient Benefits Representative to join Texas Oncology in Bastrop, TX. This full-time role supports Oncology and Radiation departments, with a Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule.

The position may be Level 1 or Sr depending on experience. Responsibilities include educating patients on insurance coverage, determining financial needs, and assisting with forms and pre-authorizations, while upholding HIPAA and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates degree in Finance, Business or four years revenue cycle experience preferred.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required.
• Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
• Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and utilize the appropriate terminology.
• Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

Responsibilities

• Prior to a patient receiving treatment; obtains insurance coverage information and demographics; educates patient on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
• Assess patients ability to meet expenses and discusses payment arrangements; educate patients on financial assistance programs and assist with completing forms.
• Completes reimbursement and liability forms for patient review; forwards information to billing office.
• Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment.
• Review patient account balance and notify front desk of patients to meet with.
• Ensure that patient co-pay amount is correctly entered into system; convey to front desk to collect.
• Verify and update demographics and insurance coverage at each patient visit per SOPs.
• Stay current on available financial aide; build relationships with financial aid providers.
• Adheres to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines.
• Maintains updated manuals, logs, forms, and documentation; performs additional duties.
• Other duties as requested or assigned.
