Job summary

Inova Schar Cancer Institute is seeking an Oncology Patient Specialist 2 to support oncology outpatient clinics. This full-time day-shift role (Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM) includes local travel to multiple Fairfax offices and ensuring excellent patient service and accurate scheduling in the Cancer Center.

The incumbent will assist patients with insurance, financial counseling, and eligibility for programs, while coordinating with the Patient Experience team to resolve issues and improve service

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of healthcare patient access experience or 3 years in an oncology medical office or healthcare revenue cycle experience.

Responsibilities

• Mentor team members on communication methods to foster effective communication.
• Coordinate pre-service instructions for patients undergoing multiple examinations or tests.
• Review insurance benefits and patient liability to prepare for counseling sessions.
• Accurately transcribe orders in the EMR when scheduling within the Cancer Center; understand CPT and ICD codes for billing.
• Assist patients with applications for alternate funding for healthcare services and coordinate with Financial Counseling.
• Explain insurance benefits to patients and collect balance due per policy.
