Job summary

The Professional Development Specialist (PDS) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute supports nursing education and competency development across multiple sites in the Boston area. The role collaborates with Clinical Practice Specialists to design, implement, and evaluate programs that advance clinical practice, mentorship, and patient care quality.

Two levels exist (PDS I and PDS II); positions are full-time with fringe part-time options.

Qualifications

BSN required for PDS I; MSN required for PDS II.
Current RN license in Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire as job requires.
3 years of clinical nursing experience and 1 year of oncology experience.
Experience in nursing education or staff development preferred.
Professional certification required within 3 years of hire (NPD-BC or Oncology-specific).

Responsibilities

Demonstrates oncology clinical practice expertise and supports staff in competency development.
Educates staff on policies and procedures, guiding practice changes with evidence-based guidelines.
Mentors nursing staff and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to improve care outcomes.
Contributes to ongoing orientation, education programs, and evaluation of staff performance.
Supports regulatory compliance and quality initiatives across NPCS and nursing units.
