Job summary

Carnival Cruise Line seeks a 2nd Engineer to stand engine room watch, monitor main engines, fuel systems, purifiers, and propulsion while on watch. You will report to the Staff Chief Engineer and the Chief Engineer and ensure safe operation aboard a vessel.

This role emphasizes safety culture, environmental compliance (MARPOL, SOLAS), and accurate logs in GHESS systems; prior STCW and IMO Certificate required; 21+ years old with 3+ years of watchkeeping.

Qualifications

  • IMO Certificate, Regulation III/2, 2nd Engineer
  • High School Diploma; applicants must be +21 years old
  • 3+ years of experience working as a watchkeeper
  • Valid STCW certificates, as required for the position

Responsibilities

  • Oversee main engines, auxiliary equipment, fuel feeding systems, boilers, steam plants, and purifiers during the watch.
  • Monitor bilge conditions and maintain the integrity of piping systems throughout assigned areas.
  • Provide ongoing supervision of all systems in operation, ensuring safety measures are fully implemented and functional.
  • Records all required monitoring data, including soundings, counters, mass flow, and water transfer logs, in compliance with GHESS procedures.
  • Ensure assigned machinery is maintained in good working condition and in full compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Reports any abnormal conditions or system irregularities promptly to senior engineering staff.
  • Conducts scheduled maintenance activities per the vessel’s planned maintenance system and ensures logs and records are updated accordingly.
  • Inputs maintenance actions and inventory updates into InfoShip/AMOS or equivalent platforms.
  • Supervises and verifies the receipt and condition of ordered spare parts and materials.
