Job summary

MBP (McDonough Bolyard Peck) seeks a field inspector to perform on-site compliance inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring for road/bridge projects. You will document work with daily diaries, perform basic surveying, and verify material testing in coordination with clients and contractors.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, OSHA 10/30 certification (or within 3 months), and proficiency with MS Office. Travel to job sites and outdoor work are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
• Basic math including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry for field measurements.
• Construction-related training/experience in road/bridge projects or related coursework.
• VDOT certifications preferred (e.g., Intermediate Work Zone, Asphalt Field Level I/II, etc.). Other certs like WACEL/ICC/MARTCP are relevant.
• Proficient with computers, emails, and MS Office/tools.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-site compliance inspection, QA, and progress monitoring per plans/contracts.
• Maintains project records including daily diaries with calculations and sketches.
• Verifies materials/tests and sends samples to labs when required for verification.
• Assists with review of payment applications, final inspections, and punch list creation.
• Communicates professionally with client, contractor, stakeholders, and MBP team.
• Ensures highway work zones/traffic control meet current standards.
• Performs basic to moderate surveying and materials testing.
• Executes administrative duties: daily timesheet, monthly expense report, monthly mileage report.
• Stand/walk on sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate uneven terrain; outdoor work.
