Job summary

MBP (McDonough Bolyard Peck) is seeking an on-site inspector to support transportation projects with duties in inspection, quality assurance, and documentation. The role emphasizes adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards on site.

You will maintain diaries, assist with test samples and payment reviews, and communicate with stakeholders while performing basic surveying and field calculations in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• OSHA 10/30 certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Working knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry for field calculations.
• Construction-related training/experience in road/bridge projects.
• VDOT certifications preferred (e.g., work zone protection, materials, etc.).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, email, internet, and web-based tools.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-site compliance inspection, QA, and progress monitoring for conformance to plans, specs, and codes.
• Maintains project records including daily diaries and basic calculations.
• Checks materials and coordinates testing with client or labs.
• Assists with review of payment applications, final inspections, and punchlists.
• Communicates with client, contractor, public, and MBP team members.
• Ensures highway work zones and traffic control meet current standards.
• Performs basic to moderate field tasks including surveying.
