R-2 CONTRACTORS, INC. is seeking a Safety Officer to join our on-site team in Gaylord, MI.

You will promote a safe work environment on active construction sites, conduct safety inspections, and lead incident investigations to drive continuous safety improvements. The role requires delivering safety briefings, maintaining records, and collaborating with project managers and field supervisors to embed safety into daily operations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Health & Safety and Occupational Health practices, including knowledge of construction safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in Accident Investigation, incident reporting, and root cause analysis, with the ability to recommend and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Background in Security and site safety oversight, including access control, hazard identification, and risk mitigation on construction projects.
• Ability to design and deliver Safety Training, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety education tailored to field personnel and project teams.
• OSHA 30 (Construction), First Aid/CPR certificates; CHST/CSP designations are a plus.
• Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills, with the ability to influence behavior and build a positive safety culture.
• Experience in civil or utility construction environments preferred; familiarity with power or renewable energy infrastructure is beneficial.
• Ability to work on-site in varying weather conditions, travel as needed for project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on active construction sites.
• Identify hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and local laws.
• Deliver safety briefings and training; maintain documentation and safety records.
• Lead accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to integrate safety into daily operations.
• Monitor use of personal protective equipment and support emergency response planning.
• Serve as a key site resource for workers’ health and safety concerns and foster a strong safety culture.
