Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer 3 to design, plan and support mechanical systems for Navy submarines and aircraft carriers.

You will apply analytical problem solving to production issues and work directly on deck-plate installations. The role emphasizes hands-on waterfront support, collaboration with cross-functional teams and ongoing mentorship of junior engineers within E86 Nuclear Propulsion – Construction and Process

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program is required.
Master’s degree with relevant experience is preferred.
Ph.D. holders may have advanced responsibilities or reduced experience requirements.

Responsibilities

Provide on-site support for construction/fabrication issues during submarine construction.
Mentor and train engineers and lead teams with varied backgrounds.
Solve shop fabrication and deck plate installation problems.
Maintain and approve work instructions and troubleshooting paperwork.
Review and interpret construction drawings and material specs.
Collaborate with engineers, construction management and craftsmen daily.
