Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal systems for U.S. Navy submarines and carriers. You will collaborate with NAVSEA, Electric Boat and shipyard teams to ensure safety, quality and schedule alignment. The role supports on-site events, requires some travel, and relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• 2 years of relevant exempt experience required.
• U.S. Citizenship required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and develop mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal systems for submarine/carrier applications.
• Support ship certification and delivery by evaluating open work and ensuring compliance with Navy/SUBSAFE standards.
• Prepare and review technical documentation including design proposals, calculations, analyses, procedures, and deviation requests.
• Collaborate with NAVSEA, Electric Boat, vendors, and shipyard personnel to address design and construction challenges.
• Apply engineering principles to develop technically sound solutions for complex shipboard problems.
