Job summary
Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. in Newport News is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to research, design, and develop mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal systems for U.S. Navy submarines and carriers, combining engineering with hands-on field support.
You will collaborate with shipyard trades and engineering teams to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements, with some travel.
Qualifications
- ABET-accredited engineering bachelor’s degree.
- 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and develop mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal systems for submarine/carrier applications.
- Support ship certification and delivery by evaluating open work and ensuring compliance with Navy and SUBSAFE standards.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including design proposals, calculations, analyses, procedures, and deviation requests.
- Collaborate with NAVSEA, Electric Boat, vendors, and shipyard personnel to address design and construction challenges.
- Apply engineering principles to develop technically sound solutions for complex shipboard problems.
- Participate in on-site issue resolution in a shipyard environment; some travel may be required.
- Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical products and systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
