Job summary

CGS Federal is seeking a Law Clerk I in Washington, DC / Arlington, VA to join our Legal Services team. This on-site, full-time position supports a federal agency’s litigation needs, including research, cite checking, document review, and drafting filings.

Candidates should have a JD or be enrolled in an ABA-accredited program with strong familiarity with federal/state courts, Lexis/Westlaw, and bluebook methods. Prior government or litigation support experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study.
• Requires knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources.
• Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
• Extensive experience with cite checking and blue book.
• Experience performing complex legal research.
• Hands-on familiarity with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex legal research for the trial staff.
• Assists in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions and briefs.
• Reviews and researches ROI (Release of Information).
• Reviews new cases and conducts research of pertinent laws.
• Edits final decisions and researches legal opinions on current cases.
• Assists attorneys with all phases of litigation.
• Cite checking via Westlaw and Lexis and blue book.
