Job summary

Howmet Aerospace Inc. is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety professional to join the Whitehall, MI site. The role focuses on coordinating safety activities, conducting audits, and leading incident investigations to prevent recurrence.

Responsibilities

• Participate in incident investigations to determine root causes and propose corrective actions.
• Conduct employee safety training programs.
• Assess and monitor site compliance with applicable environmental regulations and work with plant personnel to ensure compliance.
• Support fatality prevention efforts and assist in deploying key prevention elements.
• Partner with location leadership to deliver EHS objectives.

Work in conjunction with other members of the EHS Department to coordinate safety-related activities, detecting and monitoring plant conditions that may adversely affect the safety and health of employees and/or violate applicable laws.

Completes plant audits and program assessments, recommends corrective measures and prepares written reports on findings.

Participates in incident investigations to determine the "root cause", provides recommendations to address identified gaps and ensure the implementation of appropriate changes to prevent future occurrences

Conduct employee training programs.

Assess and monitor site compliance with all applicable local, State and Federal environmental regulations and work with plant personnel to ensure compliance.

Assist with location fatality prevention efforts including helping to lead deployment and execution of key fatality prevention elements and coaching location leaders.

Partner with location leadership to deliver EHS objectives.

• Bachelor’s Degreein safety or occupational health, industrial hygiene or related field discipline from an accredited institution.
• Previous internship, co-op experience, or previous work experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional certification preferred (CIH, GSP Graduate or ASP).
• Prior industrial hygiene experience - recognizing, evaluating, and controlling physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic workplace hazards.
• Must have a good working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding workplace safety, health and industrial hygiene.
• Strong communication skills (written and oral).
• Good PC skills with a good working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and etc.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
