On-Site Commissioning Engineer – Renewable Energy Projects

Job summary

AD Energy Recruitment partners with a leading organisation in renewable energy to recruit an experienced Commissioning Engineer for North America projects. This hands-on role covers the full commissioning lifecycle from pre-commissioning to handover into operations.

You will work with engineering, construction, automation, equipment vendors and client teams to ensure systems are installed correctly, tested thoroughly and ready for reliable operation.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of relevant industrial experience, including hands-on commissioning/start-up/ops exposure.
• Solid understanding of commissioning and start-up within industrial process facilities.
• Knowledge across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation systems.
• Practical experience with loop checks, I/O checks, functional testing and equipment checkout.
• Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation and industrial communication networks.
• Ability to read/interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, electrical drawings, control schematics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, checklists and test protocols.
• Contribute to overall commissioning strategy and sequencing with project teams.
• Coordinate on-site activities from pre-commissioning through start-up, SAT and handover.
• Verify mechanical completion and readiness before commissioning.
• Perform equipment inspections, checkout, calibration verification, loop and functional tests.
• Conduct dry and wet commissioning across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and process systems.
• Support testing and start-up of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Troubleshoot equipment, instrumentation and control-system issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with automation engineers and vendors to ensure equipment operates as intended.
• Coordinate daily commissioning activity with construction teams, vendors, subcontractors and project personnel.
• Track commissioning progress, testing results, outstanding issues and corrective actions.
• Close out commissioning punch-list items.
• Work with operations and client reps during start-up, testing and handover.
• Assist operator training and ensure site is operationally ready before turnover.
• Review as-built docs, operating manuals and turnover packages.
• Maintain accurate commissioning docs, test reports, checklists and final handover records.
