Job summary

Transwestern in Washington, DC is seeking an Assistant Building Engineer to perform work orders, preventive maintenance and repairs across building systems. The role requires hands-on maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and grounds, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.

The position emphasizes energy management, timely response to issues, and on-site presence with no remote option. A high school diploma and 2 years related experience are required, with CFC certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2+ years related experience or trade school training.
• Minimum 2 years building maintenance experience.
• Thorough knowledge of building systems operations, maintenance and repair.
• Universal CFC certification preferred or pursuing certification; valid driver's license.
• Knowledgeable in energy management systems and operations.
• Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills and customer service orientation.
• May require shift work, overtime and/or on-call duties.
• Stooping, lifting 50 lbs and climbing as part of duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems (plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
• Perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings and grounds.
• Maintain equipment per preventive maintenance programs.
• Inspect fire alarms, HVAC and plumbing to ensure proper operation.
• Respond to emergency situations and coordinate with others as needed.
