Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to run handheld scanners (Artec Leo or comparable) on concrete, steel, and other structures. You capture data on site, process in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, reports, and CAD-ready files.

You will plan scans, manage drift, verify captures, and coordinate access with site teams. Travel to regional hubs is required, with equipment, safety, and records kept up to date.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider, or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or similar software.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Able to work on active construction sites and industrial plants; able to carry equipment.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.
• Willing to travel as required.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications such as ACI, ICC are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar, embeds, and structures before pours.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
