Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a skilled 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider, or equivalent) on rebar, embeds, pipes, and structural components at Houston-area sites.

You will capture data on site, verify completeness, process with Artec Studio, and deliver scan-to-CAD files, meshes, and reports that clients can use. This role requires travel to regional hubs and comfortable handling equipment on active job sites.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD and with reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record and willingness to travel with equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and other structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export formats.
• Produce deviation maps, reports, and coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids for reverse engineering and hand-clean meshes for modeling.
• Document capture procedures and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
