Job summary

Southern Methodist University in Texas seeks a SAES Degree Counselor II to manage pre-major academic records and guide students through general education, major declaration, and timely graduation. Working with the University Advising Center, you will support retention and graduation initiatives, assist transfer processes, and collaborate with ADSA and the University Honors Program to enhance student success.

This on-campus, in-person role requires strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred in higher education or related field.
• Minimum of three years of experience in academic advising or counseling in higher education.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication; highly organized and deadline-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Maintain pre-major academic records and guide students through general education requirements.
• Collaborate with academic advisors to support major declaration and timely graduation.
• Support SAES retention and graduation efforts, transfer initiatives, ADSA and the University Honors Program.
• Review student records for eligibility in SAES retention programs and funding.
• Proactively communicate with students and staff; maintain procedures in Wiki.
• Represent SAES at university meetings; occasional evenings or weekend work as deadlines arise.
