Job summary

The City of Durham is seeking a Utility Locator to identify and mark water, sewer, and storm drain systems. You will use GIS data, maintain equipment, and support field operations with minimal office work.

The role includes a rotating on-call schedule, weekend and holiday coverage, and safety-focused field duties in a community-serving department. Two years of utility locating experience and an NC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of related experience locating utilities.
• Valid, unrestricted NC driver's license or ability to obtain NC license within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan and route daily work for utility locating and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain locating equipment and perform preventive maintenance.
• Prepare routine reports and data entry into work order systems.
• Locate and mark City-owned water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
• Utilize GIS to research and verify work orders.
• Perform light excavation with hand tools as needed.
• Work independently while supporting team objectives.
• Must work rotating on-call shift as a condition of employment.
