Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent plus six years of surveying/locating experience and a NC Class C license. Durham experience preferred; on-call rotation included.

Devoted to providing locating of City water, sewer, and storm sewer systems in response to requests through the NC811 system as well as requests through Environmental & Street Services. Decision-making involves the coordination of assignments and processes at the highest level of standard operating tasks, including providing direction to lower level staff in the execution of operational tasks and review and verification of work.
Responsible for performing a variety of locating duties such as researching records, compiling data, and computing data shown on maps; scheduling locate work assignments; directing a locating crew in determining locations of the City’s water, sewer, and storm sewer lines. Knowledge of understanding property lines, boundaries, easements, right-of-way, topographic locations and elevations is required; overseeing the production of locate data including reviewing budgets and work plans; training staff in equipment and software operation and standard locate procedures; conducting quality control; reviewing field notes; editing data; and overseeing the care, calibration and transport of locating equipment.
