Job summary

Stantec is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for on-call fieldwork across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, principally in Maine and New York. Travel with overnight stays is required, with duties spanning surface surveys, shovel tests, and excavations under supervision.

Qualified applicants will have field experience, a BA/BS in anthropology or archaeology, and competencies in site mapping, artifact handling, and safety. This role involves extensive travel and field-ready endurance.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting Phase I–III archaeological survey including inventory, testing, and/or data recovery.
• Proficient with ESRI Field Maps for ArcGIS field data collection.
• Ability to travel and work long hours, with lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork tasks such as surface survey, shovel test survey, and excavation.
• Clean, catalog, photograph, and label artifacts recovered from surface collection and excavation.
• Assist with setting up a site grid, datum, excavation units, mapping site plans, and field documentation.
