Job summary

Stantec is seeking Archaeology Technicians to support field programs across the Midwest. This project-based, hourly on-call role involves archaeological fieldwork, data collection, artifact identification, soil analysis, and occasional lab duties, with extensive travel and outdoor work in all weather.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s or master’s in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field, readiness to work in rugged terrain, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field is required.
• Previous field school or CRM experience as archaeologist or surveyor is required.
• Familiarity with ESRI’s Field Maps is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological fieldwork with field crews.
• Identify precontact and historic artifacts; perform soil analysis and interpretation.
• Work under supervision of field director or crew lead in Minnesota and nearby states.
• May perform occasional laboratory duties on project basis.
• Travel extensively to project sites; ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Operate and maintain field equipment (GPS, cameras, tablets, tools).
• Attend daily tailgate safety meetings and follow site safety plans.
• Exercising stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
