Job summary

Stantec seeks temporary/on-call Archaeological Field Technicians to support multiple Mid-Atlantic projects, mainly in Maryland and Virginia, with potential work in surrounding states. You will perform field tasks under supervision, travel extensively, and may stay overnight frequently.

Per diem and hotel accommodations are provided where applicable. The role requires rigorous fieldwork, strong safety awareness, and ability to work independently or in teams, with a willingness to travel up to 90%

Qualifications

Interest in and knowledge of cultural resource management and archaeological methods for survey, assessment, and excavation.
Adaptability and willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours through rugged terrain and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

Assist in archaeological field surveys using methods such as survey, testing, excavation, surface collection, and monitoring.
Record soils by color, texture, and inclusions; use maps and GPS; photograph sites.
Experience with ESRI Field Maps for ArcGIS is an asset.
Set up site grids, datum, and excavation units; map plans and shovel tests.
Identify historic and prehistoric artifacts following standard procedures.
Identify cultural features.
Clean and prepare site surfaces for mapping and photography.
Manage field equipment.
Serve as laboratory assistant when indoors.
