Job summary

BKF is hiring an ON CALL Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections and verify that each project is built in accordance with contract requirements and permits.

Responsibilities include inspecting a variety of construction projects, advising the Resident Engineer, taking samples, conducting field tests, checking utilities and grades, reviewing traffic control and safety, and maintaining daily records and submittals; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects.
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver's record are required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis.
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes.
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI's, CCO's
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned
