Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking an ON CALL Construction Inspector to execute onsite construction inspections and ensure project compliance with contract requirements and permits.

The role requires college-level education or equivalent experience in transportation or civil projects, and multiple years of supervision/inspection of engineering construction work. Valid CA driver's license is required. The position offers competitive pay and opportunities for professional certifications and benefits.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects.
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications.
• Valid California Class C driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in conducting field tests or refers samples for laboratory analysis.
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes.
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI's, CCO's.
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports.
• Maintains material and inspection records.
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities.
• Other duties as assigned
