Job summary

BKF Engineers is hiring an on-call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections in Santa Barbara, CA, ensuring the project complies with contract requirements and permits. You will inspect and report on varied construction activities and coordinate with the Resident Engineer and Project Manager.

The role requires a college degree or 5+ years in Transportation/Civil projects, plus 4+ years in supervising or inspecting engineering construction work, and a valid CA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects.
• 4+ years of experience in supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver's record are required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in conducting field tests or refers samples for laboratory analysis.
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes.
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFIs, CCOs.
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports.
• Maintains material and inspection records.
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities.
• Other duties as assigned.
