Job summary

BKF is seeking an ON CALL Construction Inspector to conduct onsite inspections ensuring compliance with contract requirements and permits. Responsibilities include inspecting projects, advising engineers, sampling materials, and documenting tests and quantities.

Applicants should have a college degree or 5+ years in civil/transportation projects, plus 4+ years in inspection and a CA driver license. Preferred certifications include CPII, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Masonry, ICC Welding, and ACI

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects.
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications.
• Valid California Class C driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures
• Reviews contractor’s traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI’s, CCO’s
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned
