Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking an on-call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections and ensure compliance with contract requirements and permits in California.

Responsibilities include inspecting projects, advising the Resident Engineer or Agency PM, taking material samples, reviewing submittals, and maintaining inspection records. Candidates should have 5+ years in civil/transportation projects, 4+ years in inspection, and a valid CA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• College degree or 5+ years' work experience with transportation or civil related projects.
• 4+ years supervising or inspecting engineering construction work, reading and interpreting complex plans and specifications.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver's record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and report on a variety of construction projects.
• Advise Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and inform contractors of variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Take samples of materials, prepare test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests; refer samples for laboratory analysis.
• Check location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Check roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures.
• Review contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspect earthwork grading, asphalt concrete placement, proportions, and mix control.
• Inspect delivery, placing, curing of concrete and placement of reinforcing steel.
• Assist PM in review of project submittals, RFIs, CCOs.
• Verify acceptability of material via Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports.
• Maintain material and inspection records.
• Maintain a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities.
• Other duties as assigned.
