Job summary

BKF is hiring an on-call Construction Inspector to execute onsite inspections ensuring compliance with contract requirements and permits. Responsibilities include field testing, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with Resident Engineer.

Candidates should have a college degree or 5+ years in Transportation/Civil projects, plus 4+ years of inspection supervision. A valid California driver’s license is required and CPII/ICC/ACI certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures
• Reviews contractor’s traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI’s, CCO’s
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned
