On-Call Surgical RN First Assistant

Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Oregon seeks an experienced RNFA to support the surgical team across pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases. You will collaborate with the surgeon and healthcare staff, participating in regional on-call rotations for elective, emergent, and urgent cases.

You will apply AORN standards, maintain sterile technique, and assist in room setup, instrumentation, exposure, hemostasis, suturing, postoperative evaluation, and patient education as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum two (2) years of peri-operative scrubbing and circulating experience in a KP OR or one (1) year experience as an RNFA in or outside of KP.
• RNFA certification and/or completion meeting AORN standards; CNOR and ongoing education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon intra-operatively with instruments, exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and tissue handling per AORN standards.
• Prepare and maintain sterile field, set up ESU, lights, suction, and equipment; assist in room turnover and patient transfer.
• Post-operative patient evaluation and adherence to facility protocols; collaborate with anesthesia and surgical team.
