Job summary

City of Parkland is seeking an On-Call Plans Examiner to review plans for construction, remodeling, demolition, and repair. You will ensure compliance with city, county, state, and federal codes across multiple trades including structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, and roofing.

The role involves plan review, coordination with contractors and inspectors, and maintaining permit records. Requires Florida Inspector license, Broward County certification, and related experience;

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; some college or technical training preferred.
• Five (5) years of related work experience.
• Licensure as a competent tradesperson in the discipline for which the individual is eligible to be a Plans Examiner is required.
• Holds a valid State of Florida Inspector license and has worked in a jurisdiction for at least two (2) years as an Inspector in the discipline to qualify as a Plans Examiner.
• Must be able to meet the certification requirements of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals as found in Chapter 1 of the Broward County Administrative Provisions of the Florida Building Code.
• Certified or able to be certified by the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board, State of Florida, in the category sought.
• Must possess a driver\'s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Examines specifications, blueprints, and plans for construction, remodeling, demolition, and repair to ensure compliance with city, county, state, and Federal codes.
• Prepares comments on plans found to be deficient and ensures corrections prior to approval.
• Maintains records of plan review and related reports.
• Conducts on-site inspections of new construction or alterations when required.
• Interacts with contractors, owners, builders, officials, and inspectors to resolve issues and answer questions.
• Attends training to maintain certification and keeps up with code changes.
