Job summary

City of Doral is seeking an advanced professional engineer to examine complex construction plans for building projects and enforce the Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade County Code, and City Code. The role requires independent judgment in applying engineering knowledge to plan reviews and approvals or disapprovals.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, with a 40-hour work week, and involves extensive interaction with architects, engineers, contractors, owners and city staff to ensure compliance

Qualifications

  • Must hold State of Florida PE license with structural discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of structural engineering experience under building codes.
  • Eligible for Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals certification; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Review commercial and residential permit plans to determine code compliance and structural integrity.
  • Approve/disapprove plans in accordance with Florida Building Code and related regulations.
  • Discuss disapproved items with architects, engineers, contractors, and owners to obtain required changes.
  • Apply code interpretations and assess deviations feasibility under various conditions.
  • Provide guidance from the structural help desks and communicate with the public and other departments.
