Job summary

The Pingry School is seeking experienced, caring educators to serve as per-diem Middle School Substitute Teachers at our Basking Ridge Campus during the 2026-2027 school year. Substitute Teachers provide classroom coverage for Grades 6 through 8 on an as-needed basis, implementing lesson plans and leading activities.

This on-call role requires strong classroom management, flexibility, and the ability to engage early adolescents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or near-complete education program with classroom experience.
• Experience teaching or working with middle school students.
• Ability to implement lesson plans with limited prep time.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building with early adolescents.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
• Lead students through classwork, provide directions, check for understanding, and keep students actively engaged.
• Establish clear expectations and maintain a positive, orderly, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Support students during Community Time, advisory, lunch, flex periods, transitions, and other assigned parts of the school day.
• Respond thoughtfully to students' academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
• Communicate relevant information about completed work, student participation, and concerns requiring faculty follow-up.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators to provide a safe and consistent experience for students.
• Model Pingry's Honor Code and hold students to the School's academic and behavioral expectations.
