Job summary

The Pingry School is seeking dependable and flexible educators to serve as per-diem Upper School Substitute Teachers at our Basking Ridge Campus during the 2026-2027 school year. Substitute Teachers provide classroom coverage for Grades 9 through 12 on an as-needed basis.

Upper School students work with a high degree of independence, but Substitute Teachers still provide essential structure and continuity. In this role, you will implement the classroom teacher's plans, take attendance,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or current senior standing in an education degree program.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and facilitate lesson plans with limited prep time.
• Comfort using Google Classroom, Veracross, and Google Workspace.
• Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration with faculty.

Responsibilities

• Implement the lesson plans, assignments, and classroom procedures provided by the teacher.
• Take attendance and communicate directions and expectations clearly.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
• Monitor independent and collaborative student work and provide assistance when appropriate.
• Help students remain engaged and accountable for completing assigned work.
• Provide coverage for other school-day responsibilities as assigned.
• Communicate relevant information about completed work, student participation, and concerns requiring faculty follow-up.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators to support student safety and continuity of learning.
• Model Pingry's Honor Code and hold students to the School's academic and behavioral expectations.
