Job summary

The John Stewart Company, a full-service housing management firm in San Francisco, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to perform preventive, emergency, cosmetic, and routine tasks across our properties. The role emphasizes safe work practices, hands-on problem solving, and timely service to residents.

You will handle inspections, coordinate vendors, and be on-call for after-hours and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of maintenance experience in an apartment community or similar setting.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Basic math and computer skills; fluent in English; bilingual a plus.
• Knowledge of REAC or other regulatory inspections is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and responds to work orders and coordinates with residents and management.
• Ensures preventative maintenance scheduling and performance is up to date.
• Performs cosmetic and routine maintenance across the community.
• Handles unit turnovers and prepares for new move-ins; conducts move-in/move-out inspections.
• Conducts quarterly inspections with Property Manager or PM.
• Performs plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry and masonry repairs as needed.
• Coordinates, schedules and oversees vendor work as necessary.
• Be on-call for off-shift and weekend emergency maintenance coverage as scheduled.
